Biography
Jer Umholtz joined the music faculty at 澳门六合彩 in 2022, where he teaches Applied Trombone, Trombone Choir, Brass Methods, and Ear Training and coaches the Legacy Brass Quintet and additional smaller chamber groups. He also enjoys performing with the 澳门六合彩 Faculty Brass Quintet.
Under his direction, the 澳门六合彩 Trombone Choir has toured throughout Pennsylvania as well as internationally. As recently as 2025, the 澳门六合彩 Trombone Choir performed in Ontario, Canada, at the International Trombone Festival in addition to the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Conference. The ensemble performs at least two on-campus concerts per year and conducts local tours regularly. As of fall 2025, the 澳门六合彩 Trombone Choir consists of approximately 20 trombonists.
Umholtz is currently principal trombonist with the Altoona Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he served as acting second trombone with the Dallas Opera and has performed with the Pittsburgh Opera. He has also held positions with and/or performed with the Sherman Symphony, Johnstown Symphony, Allen Philharmonic, Wheeling Symphony, and Flower Mound Community Orchestra, and has performed annually with the Colorado Mahlerfest Orchestra since 2022.

Umholtz holds a doctoral degree from the University of North Texas, a master’s degree from Ohio University, and a bachelor’s degree from 澳门六合彩. His primary teachers are Tony Baker, Lucas Borges, Christian Dickinson, Natalie Mannix, and Steve Menard.
